Negotiated Data Solutions LLCN-Data is a successor to the ownership of certain patents originally owned by National Semiconductor (National). In the mid-1990s, a group including ex-National engineers formed a product company called Vertical Networks, which developed and sold a line of PBX/telephony systems known as the “Instant Office.” N-Data was set up in late 2003 in an effort to recoup value for the Vertical shareholders, which included prominent venture funds who had invested well over $100M in Vertical Networks. Vertical ultimately sold its product-based assets in 2004. N-Data is not a typical patent licensing company in several important respects. In addition to offering reasonable licenses to recoup investment, a large part of N-Data’s mission is to further socially and environmentally responsible practices in both the developed and developing worlds. This is why N-Data is a member of the RIPL Group. N-Data directs a substantial portion of its revenue towards non-profit organizations that have goals in common with us, and we have been pursuing successfully the inclusion of social and environmental goals in intellectual property agreements we sign with electronics companies. We currently have two distinct patent licensing opportunities available. An NWay/IEEE Standard patent license offer is available for certain patented technology as it relates to certain IEEE standards. The NWay/IEEE Standard patent license offer should be of particular interest as the revenues from this program will be directed to non-profit organizations identified by the RIPL Group. Separately, a Serial Communications patent rights opportunity is available that has applicability in numerous other contexts, such as electronics products that are compliant with the Universal Serial Bus (USB) Specification and/or the High Definition Audio (HDA) Specification.
